New CFM and FMP Logos

The redesigned logos for the Certified Facility Manager® and Facility Management Professional designations have a more contemporary look and reflect the staying power of the credentials in the modern workplace.

The Facility Management Professional Program

IFMA’s Facility Management Professional (FMP) designation is a knowledge-based credential demonstrating a proven comprehension of the basics of facility management. A springboard for obtaining the Certified Facility Manager® (CFM®) certification, the FMP designation will help to accelerate an FM’s transition into the profession.

The FMP requires the completion of four IFMA approved courses. These courses are designed to provide FMP candidates with the critical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in facility management.

The courses include:

  • The Business of FM
  • The Operations and Maintenance Competency Course
  • The Planning and Project Management Competency Course
  • The Leadership and Management Competency Course

Available through the Online Learning Center or through an instructor-led format, these courses are essential for anyone working as or with a facility manager. Once you have completed the four required courses, submit your application online at www.ifma.org. FMPs are not required to earn maintenance points or recertify the designation.

The Certified Facility Manager® Program

The Certified Facility Manager® (CFM®) credential sets the industry standard for ensuring knowledge and abilities of practicing facility managers. The certification process is designed to assess competence in the field through work experience, education and the ability to pass a comprehensive exam. Since the program began in 1992, more than 3100 facility managers from 32 countries have achieved this prestigious recognition.

The certification process is described in detail at www.ifma.org under FM Credentials. Recertification is required every three years. CFMs must demonstrate continued commitment to growth and excellence through practice, continuing education, and professional involvement.

Learning Opportunities

The CFM Exam Review Course and core competency courses are offered periodically by IFMA. The schedule is on the IFMA web site.
